Umbrella Liability

Umbrella Insurance

A personal umbrella policy protects you if a lawsuit is made against you because someone feels you are legally responsible for an injury due to an accident. If, for example, you are accused of being responsible for serious injury caused by a household pet, an auto accident, or someone slips and falls, you could be sued for far more than you can afford to pay.

Although liability coverage available under your primary auto, home or watercraft policy provides you with base protection, the coverage afforded may not be enough to pay the damages awarded by a jury.


  • Higher limit - the personal umbrella takes over where primary limit coverage ends, providing coverage in increments of $1mm beyond the limits of primary policies
  • Extra coverage - the personal umbrella provides coverage not found in primary policies such as world wide liability coverage, coverage for personal injury suits resulting from libel, slander, false arrest, invasion of privacy, or wrongful eviction
  • Defense coverage - the personal umbrella provides defense coverage
