Don't Be A Turkey!

Special points of interest:
Thanksgiving is a day devoted to family, friends, food and football. While millions of households are settling down to their feast, firefighters everywhere are snuffing out flames. Twice as many cooking related house fires occur on Thanksgiving than any other day of the year. The fires are deadlier and more expensive with an estimated $8million paid annually. The vast majority of the fires start on the stove or in the oven. Ohio is reported to be the 3rd leading state for grease and cooking fires on Thanksgiving Day. The number and severity of the losses have increase much in part to the rising popularity of the turkey fryer.

Consumer Reports has issued a caution on turkey fryers stating that Underwriters Laboratories (UL) has refused to certify any turkey fryer as safe! Manufacturers have made improvements to the fryers over the years but the UL results still showed the fryers remain dangerous due to the potential for the cookers to overheat oil to the point of combustion.
